Bush Was Right After All

I appreciate President Obama honoring the troops in his speech about Iraq last night. However, it amazes me that he took credit for the success and completion of the mission as well as the withdrawal of the troops. The August 31st deadline to withdraw troops was set by Iraq during the Bush administration. The success in of the mission in Iraq would not have happened without the 30,000 troop surge recommended by General Petraeus and approved by President Bush. The left-wing liberals referred to the general as General "Be tray us" and vilified President Bush. Our current commander-in-chief was a senator from Illinois then and insisted the troop surge would fail. He was very wrong but will not admit he was wrong and will not give President Bush the credit he rightly deserves. Here is then Senator Obama in his own words...

President Obama and the Democratic Congress are in serious trouble with voters if the polls are accurate. Obama's big socialist government approach to handling domestic and foreign policy as well as the liberal bills being passed by the Pelosi/Reid Congress are bearing the fruit of the progressives and liberals agendas. People have finally realized that socialism and big government DOES NOT WORK!

The polling numbers suggest the same scenario in this year's mid-term elections that happened in 1994 where Republicans surged to take over Congress. My prediction is the Democrats will lose control of the House but barely hold on to the Senate with a two or four seat advantage. In other words, total gridlock until 2012.

President Obama is a liar and a hypocrite of the political kind. He has ALWAYS said he is against freezing the federal budget. His statements in the presidential debates about budget freezes prove it he is a liar. Now, he says we need a freeze. Want evidence Obama is a liar? Politico has provided a nice little clip showing Obama's statements in the presidential debates about federal budget freezes.

Obama has not, all of a sudden, seen the light of financial responsibility. I am convinced Obama is proposing a freeze now to try to throw a bone to independents who have turned suddenly and wholesale against him and his socialist policies. They have finally seen him for what he is, a full-fledged socialist. Ironically, the political winds have turned badly against him and his socialist agenda. Brown and Massachusetts' voters have said "Enough is enough!" Obama and his socialist elitists, for some reason, think they know better how to spend people's hard earned money. Pay attention to what Obama said in the debates about making sure we all "share" the burden.

The assault on liberty and freedom by Obama and his socialist elites is astounding. But I am encouraged to see the election results of even the bastions of progressive elitism repudiating Obama and his ilk. "Enough is enough!" Thank you Massachusetts for restoring my hope in the Constitution and the protection of liberty and freedom.

As more and more people of all parties, particularly the independents who are not tied to any party, see the hypocrisy and lies of Obama and his socialist elites, some sense of sanity and responsibility will be restored to Washington. I am looking forward to this year's elections.

Dick Cheney is the Man

I love it when former VP Dick Cheney speaks and the Left squirms. I understand it when Bush chooses to remain silent while Obama assails him and the former administration. Unlike Carter and Clinton, Bush holds the office in the highest esteem. Cheney is under no such restraints and is a mighty voice in pointing to the dangers confronting our country in the face of the lack of moral fortitude and whiny hand wringing by liberals.

Here is part of a recent speech by Cheney at the AEI, the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research.

Another term out there that slipped into the discussion is the notion that American interrogation practices were a "recruitment tool" for the enemy. On this theory, by the tough questioning of killers, we have supposedly fallen short of our own values. This recruitment-tool theory has become something of a mantra lately, including from the President himself. And after a familiar fashion, it excuses the violent and blames America for the evil that others do. It's another version of that same old refrain from the Left, "We brought it on ourselves."

It is much closer to the truth that terrorists hate this country precisely because of the values we profess and seek to live by, not by some alleged failure to do so. Nor are terrorists or those who see them as victims exactly the best judges of America's moral standards, one way or the other.

Critics of our policies are given to lecturing on the theme of being consistent with American values. But no moral value held dear by the American people obliges public servants ever to sacrifice innocent lives to spare a captured terrorist from unpleasant things. And when an entire population is targeted by a terror network, nothing is more consistent with American values than to stop them.

As a practical matter, too, terrorists may lack much, but they have never lacked for grievances against the United States. Our belief in freedom of speech and religion, our belief in equal rights for women, our support for Israel, our cultural and political influence in the world--these are the true sources of resentment, all mixed in with the lies and conspiracy theories of the radical clerics. These recruitment tools were in vigorous use throughout the 1990s, and they were sufficient to motivate the nineteen recruits who boarded those planes on September 11, 2001.

The United States of America was a good country before 9/11, just as we are today. List all the things that make us a force for good in the world--for liberty, for human rights, for the rational, peaceful resolution of differences--and what you end up with is a list of the reasons why the terrorists hate America. If fine speech-making, appeals to reason, or pleas for compassion had the power to move them, the terrorists would long ago have abandoned the field. And when they see the American government caught up in arguments about interrogations, or whether foreign terrorists have constitutional rights, they don't stand back in awe of our legal system and wonder whether they had misjudged us all along. Instead the terrorists see just what they were hoping for--our unity gone, our resolve shaken, our leaders distracted. In short, they see weakness and opportunity.

What is equally certain is this: The broad-based strategy set in motion by President Bush obviously had nothing to do with causing the events of 9/11. But the serious way we dealt with terrorists from then on, and all the intelligence we gathered in that time, had everything to do with preventing another 9/11 on our watch. The enhanced interrogations of high-value detainees and the terrorist surveillance program have without question made our country safer. Every senior official who has been briefed on these classified matters knows of specific attacks that were in the planning stages and were stopped by the programs we put in place.

Obama's speech on Memorial Day is a clear indication that he truly does not understand the dangers facing this country. His declaration of Gitmo and waterboarding as being "torture" was stupid and inaccurate even by his own Justice Department's pronouncements. Our treatment of enemy combatants does not enhance terrorist recruitment. Successful terrorist attacks do. Jihadists and enemies of freedom respect strength and power. Bush and Cheney understood that principle and acted upon that fact. Before politics and personal ambition set aside his principles, even Biden recognized it as well. Obama is a fool to think otherwise.

Charles Johnson and his fantastic site, little green footballs, is one of my favorites sites to visit every day. Charles, along with Hugh Hewitt, is a primary reason I got into blogging. His post about Dan Rathers and the fake memos rocked journalism. I readily identified with it since I had a typesetting and printing background. Charles has wonderful insight, wit and humor about politics, the environment and the present dangers in the world threatening us. His occasional posts on music are eclectic and stimulating (in a weird, amusing way!)

However, his assault on those that believe in the creation by God thoroughly puzzles me. The energy Charles extends toward refuting creation is, I believe, distracting from what he does best.

I say this now for all to see. I believe without reservation and with all the faith I have: I believe that the living God created the heavens and earth and everything in it, including man. I trust His word and I am not ashamed to loudly proclaim it.

That being said, I do not want faith OR evolution taught in the schools. I am not afraid of evolution but I do NOT want it taught in schools at the exclusion or ridicule of creation. I do want politicians at NOTANY level trying to mandate creation OR evolution.

Charles, I hold you in the highest esteem. I will continue to read your site. But if creation is bogus, why would our founders have put so much forethought and acknowledgment of creation and the Creator in our country's most hallowed document? Were they ignorant? If they were wrong about creation and the Creator, were they wrong about the principles of our republic?

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

I know that not all the founding fathers were believers but creation and the Creator ARE part of the bedrock foundation of our country. May it always be so.

"Therefore, Iran will not be able to reach the point where we would wake up one morning to an Iran with a nuclear weapon," he said. His interviewer then asked "If Iran decides today to expel the IAEA from the country, it will need six months to produce [nuclear] weapons?" Obama was speaking to elitist super-wealthy contributors in San Francisco recently at the Getty mansion about his difficulties in attracting voters in Pennsylvania. Our liberal socialist candidate for President spewed this divisive morsel and self-illuminating speech about "bitter" small town Americans.

You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, a lot of them — like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they’ve gone through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, and they cling to guns, or religion, or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them, or anti-immigrant sentiment, or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Wow. What arrogance. So much for hope and change. Kinda reminds me a the scene from Animal Farm. He has no clue about the values of middle class Americans. And Democrats think Obama's the next messiah? Scary.

Robert Spencer has a great post on Pajamas Media about the fitna caused by Dutch MP GeertWilders' film "Fitna". Robert breaks down the passages of the Qur’an and corresponding words and actions of MUSLIMS depicted in "Fitna". He correctly points out that with a few edits "Fitna" could be a film by the Mujahideen. Yet the liberal politically correct West continues to cave in to Islam's demands in the name of tolerance and dialog.

And that points up the odd myopia of virtually all of the objections to Fitna. It was not Geert Wilders, but the many Muslims he shows in his film, who link Islam with violence. And that link has already been made innumerable times around the world - by Islamic jihad warriors, not by non-Muslim “Islamophobes.” Omar Bakri, once the leading jihadist in Britain but now in exile from the Sceptered Isle, even went so far as to say that with a few small edits, Fitna “could be a film by the Mujahideen.” And that’s precisely the problem: while a growing chorus of Muslim and non-Muslim voices denounces Fitna, what are they doing to limit the activities of the jihadists the film portrays? (emphasis mine)

Robert also touches on LiveLeaks fear and reaction to backlash in their decision to pull "Fitna" from their servers. He agrees with me that LiveLeak's concern for their staff is real. Despite Islam's reaction about Dutch MP Geert Wilders' film, Geert is absolutely correct in showing the connection of violence and Islam. It is NOT a religion of peace and tolerance. Will the West ever stand up for liberty? Or is it doomed to be conquered by a fascist religion that talks peace only when it wants a hudna or when all other religions and states have been subjugated under Islam. All else would be destroyed or put under jizya, the subjugation tax imposed on Christians and Jews and Islam's idea of tolerance. The problem is, the tolerance and so-called peaceful co-existence espoused by Islam forbids the open practice of a person's faith if it is not Islam.

LiveLeak’s concern for its employees is legitimate. The employees didn’t sign up for this. But beyond LiveLeak, if Americans and Westerners and all people who are threatened by the global jihad and Islamic supremacism aren’t willing to give their lives for this cause, then all is lost. Because the jihadists certainly are willing to give their lives for their cause. For them, no price is too high. And if any price is too high for us, then ultimately all we will have to pay is jizya - the tax specified by Qur’an 9:29 for certain non-Muslims (particularly Jews and Christians) subjugated as inferiors under the rule of Islamic Sharia law.

LiveLeak succumbed to pressure and threats about its posting of Dutch MP Geert Wilders' film "Fitna". You can see their official statement in my post below when you try to play the film. I have posted it again in a different format courtesy of The Jawa Report.

Why do radical Muslims seethe and breathe threats when anyone criticizes the actions of Islam? They are blind to the fact that their own words and actions convict them. Geert Wilders has simply put together images and film clips from Muslims' own mouths.

Here is what LiveLeak says about their dilemma.

"Following threats to our staff of a very serious nature, and some ill informed reports from certain corners of the British media that could directly lead to the harm of some of our staff, Liveleak.com has been left with no other choice but to remove Fitna from our servers.

The Truth of the Matter

I have not blogged in a long time. I have grown a little cynical about politics and the sensibilities of many of my fellow Americans. But I so much appreciated the comments of President Bush on the fifth anniversary of the war in Iraq that I felt compelled to speak up. Liberal fascists as well as the President's supposed friends and allies have vilified him over and over and over for his foreign policies since 9/11. The truth is plain for all to see as it unfolds in Iraq. But blind, stupid ideologues have their own agenda that seeks the failure of America and all that has made it great. Liberal fascists do not understand that if Islamic fascism wins the day and the flag of Islam flies over this country, the life styles and actions of most Liberals would among be the very FIRST things to be banned under Islam.

Anyway, my blood pressure always starts to rise when I think about the foolishness of the ignorant left and how they blame all problems on our President. So I need to relax a little... LOL! Needless to say, I predict that as long as the United States does not do something stupid and pull prematurely out of Iraq before it is ready to fully assume its own governance, President Bush will go down in history as a great President that changed the course of history in the Middle East.

George W. Bush may not be the best manager of the Executive Branch our country has produced. I disagree profoundly with him on many things. But there is no doubt in my mind he is a great leader. I want my President to be a leader, not a politically correct manager that seeks to appease and placate an enemy that would devour us in the name of Islam.

Wow... Today was the first time I saw this smackdown of Islam by Wafa Sultan provided by Memri TV and posted on You-Tube. Wafa is an Arab-American psychiatrist in Los Angeles. She admits she is a secularist with no belief in the supernatural. Wafa had a discussion with a Muslim on Al-Jazeera TV. Wafa states "There is no clash of civilizations but a clash between the mentality of the Middle Ages and that of the 21st Century." While she glosses over some acts committed by Jews while establishing their nation, she hits the nail on the head in her characterization of Islam and Muslims in general.

She is indeed passionate in her smackdown of Islam.

Wow... This is an image of Hyperion, one of Saturn's moons. This sponge-looking moon has some amazing characteristics that are totally different from any other moon in our solar system. This view of Hyperion revealing details across its surface, was obtained during Cassini's flyby in September of 2005. It is made up of a combination of images taken using infrared, green and ultraviolet spectral filters.

The Case for Bombing Iran

Norman Podhoretz has a great article in commentarymagazine.com spelling out his reasoning for the urgent need to confront Iran militarily. His comparisons of Hitler and the world community's attempts to appease the ideologically driven Nazi leader to the present day kowtowing to Islamofascism and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran is chillingly blunt. It is definitely a "must read".

Here also is a brief interview with Norman highlighting his concerns.

The left will, of course, decry and bloviate about the warmongering attitudes of concerned Americans as being based in fear, racial bigotry, lack of understanding, blah, blah, blah, ad nauseum.

Norman goes into great detail about the similarities and differences in WWII, the Cold War (he calls it WWIII), and the current War on Terror (he calls it WWIV). Here is a chilling section of the article in which Norman also quotes Bernard Lewis.

But listen to what Bernard Lewis, the greatest authority of our time on the Islamic world, has to say in this context on the subject of deterrence:
MAD, mutual assured destruction, [was effective] right through the cold war. Both sides had nuclear weapons. Neither side used them, because both sides knew the other would retaliate in kind. This will not work with a religious fanatic [like Ahmadinejad]. For him, mutual assured destruction is not a deterrent, it is an inducement. We know already that [Iran’s leaders] do not give a damn about killing their own people in great numbers. We have seen it again and again. In the final scenario, and this applies all the more strongly if they kill large numbers of their own people, they are doing them a favor. They are giving them a quick free pass to heaven and all its delights.
Nor are they inhibited by a love of country:
We do not worship Iran, we worship Allah. For patriotism is another name for paganism. I say let this land [Iran] burn. I say let this land go up in smoke, provided Islam emerges triumphant in the rest of the world.
These were the words of the Ayatollah Khomeini, who ruled Iran from 1979 to 1989, and there is no reason to suppose that his disciple Ahmadinejad feels any differently.

Still less would deterrence work where Israel was concerned. For as the Ayatollah Rafsanjani (who is supposedly a “pragmatic conservative”) has declared:
If a day comes when the world of Islam is duly equipped with the arms Israel has in possession. . . application of an atomic bomb would not leave anything in Israel, but the same thing would just produce damages in the Muslim world.
In other words, Israel would be destroyed in a nuclear exchange, but Iran would survive.

In spite of all this, we keep hearing that all would be well if only we agreed—in the currently fashionable lingo—to “engage” with Iran, and that even if the worst came to the worst we could—to revert to the same lingo—“live” with a nuclear Iran. It is when such things are being said that, alongside the resemblance between now and World War III, a parallel also becomes evident between now and the eve of World War II.

Folks, Islamofascism and the drive for a world Islamic caliphate is real. Iran will have its nukes someday, sooner or later. When it does, Ahmadinejad and Iran will use it to achieve their goals.

Cox & Forkum always has absolutely the best political cartoons. I don't like the word cartoons to describe their art because the word evokes thoughts of frivolity. While their art is indeed hilarious it always brings a particular point home, which is usually deadly serious. Case in point is this cartoon about Hamas and Fatah and its not-so-subtle declaration of the stupidity of our government to somehow declare Fatah as being "moderate". There is nothing moderate about Fatah.

Cox & Forkum also says this about Hamas and Fatah.

"Palestinian moderates"? It was Fatah's Abbas who refused to disarm Palestinian militant groups, including Hamas and the "armed wing" of his own party, even after continued terrorist attacks. It was Fatah terrorists who claimed joint responsibility with Hamas for the suicide-bombing mother who murdered four people. Abbas has called Israel the "Zionist enemy". It is Fatah whose name means "conquest" and whose logo still includes an AK-47 and a grenade.
There's so little difference between Hamas and Fatah that you can barely tell them apart: Fatah photo and Hamas photo. The only real difference is that Hamas is more open about its intent to destroy Israel.

Hamas? Fatah? Hamas? Fatah? You decide. Ya think Israel believes Fatah is moderate?

The PC gamers out there may recognize this image from Unreal Tournament 2004, arguably the best of the best when it comes to online gaming. For relaxation and winding down, some folks like to fish, some like to bowl, some like to work on cars. My choice is online gaming. My personal choices are Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal Tournament 2004 and Halo. Unreal has a wide variety of game scenarios and is very fast paced. Halo is a bit slower but has a more natural speed and feel to it. One of the outstanding features to Unreal is the open architecture nature of the program to design "skins", or characters in addition to the ability of gamers to design "maps", or rooms that are designed according to individual taste and game style. One of the skins I like to use is good ol' Gumby. It is pretty cool to watch him run, jump, weave and bob as he, I mean I, shoot rockets (my weapon of choice), plasma rifles, mini-guns, lightning guns and nukes. Yes, I said nukes.

My wife thinks I'm nuts. But there's nothing more fun than putting a rocket up someone's head. Whether it's in Unreal or Halo, Jack Bauer, Tater, Smoke, Yar, Eclipse, Coula, JohnnyBoy, Darnoc, Profet, Wifey, Trophy, Deus, Phenix, and all the rest of you that I dispatch with skill and honor, you know what I mean. Fun, fun, fun. Frag ya later...

“The Darfur conflict began as an ecological crisis, arising at least in part from climate change,” Ban said in a Washington Post opinion column. UN statistics showed that rainfall declined some 40 percent over the past two decades, he said, as a rise in Indian Ocean temperatures disrupted monsoons. “This suggests that the drying of sub-Saharan Africa derives, to some degree, from man-made global warming,” the South Korean diplomat wrote.

“It is no accident that the violence in Darfur erupted during the drought,” Ban said in the Washington daily. When Darfur’s land was rich, he said, black farmers welcomed Arab herders and shared their water, he said.

With the drought, however, farmers fenced in their land to prevent overgrazing. “For the first time in memory, there was no longer enough food and water for all. Fighting broke out,” he said.

Hitchens vs. Hedges

As always, Zombie has a great post at Zombietime about a debate he attended on May 24 between Christopher Hitchens and Chris Hedges at King Middle School auditorium in Berkeley, California. The debate was centered around the theme "Is God...Great?"

Surprising as it might seem in a contemporary political landscape where mocking religion is an established liberal pastime, and where Christianity and spirituality are most often associated with conservatism, it was Hitchens -- now loathed by the left for not toeing the party line over the Iraq War -- who attacked religion, while the neo-Socialist, anti-patriotic, radical Hedges volunteered for the seemingly topsy-turvy position of having to defend spirituality and the existence of God.

How did this strange state of affairs come to pass? In one word: Islam.

The left -- of which Hitchens was a part until recently -- has always been anti-religion. But now, they've become caught in a philosophical bind: how can they promote multiculturalism -- and by extension all non-Western cultures, such as fundamentalist Islam -- if they condemn religion in general? Neocon pundits have since 9/11 frequently accused the left of being in bed with Muslim extremists, a charge which the left has vehemently denied. But with every denial their position was becoming more and more untenable, as the verbiage and narratives of Islamic radicals and "anti-war" progressives have grown to become virtually indistinguishable.

Someone had to take the lead and resolve the dilemma that the left had created for itself. And so it was Hedges who stepped forward in this debate to test the waters for the first time, taking what is for him (and the left) a revolutionary position: that spirituality and religion -- with the noteworthy exception of organized Christianity -- is good.

Now, at no point did Hedges state that he was performing this amazing flipflop specifically due to Islam. He didn't need to say it -- because Hitchens said it for him. In fact, Hitchens repeatedly tore the roof off of Hedges' carefully constructed rhetorical edifice, saying aloud the exact thoughts that Hedges and the left didn't want anyone to hear.

While I find Hitchens to be at times vulgar and and extremely vitriolic towards faith, his grasp of the dangers that confront us is excellent and verbalizes it in a way only he can do.

Hitchens: But, to what I think is the hidden agenda of the question: 'Is George Bush on a Christian crusade in Iraq and Afghanistan?' Obviously not, obviously not. Anyone who's studied what's happening in either of those countries now knows that the whole of American policy -- and by the way a lot of your own future, ladies and gentlemen -- is staked on the hope that federal secular democrats can emerge from this terrible combat. We can protect them and offer them help while they do so. We know that they're there, that we are -- I've met them, I love them, they're our friends. Every member of the 82nd Airborne Division could be a snake-handling congregationalist, for all I know, but these men and women, though you sneer and jeer at them, and snigger when you hear applause and excuses for suicide bombers -- and you have to live with the shame of having done that -- these people are guarding you while you sleep, whether you know it or not. And they're also creating space for secularism to emerge, and you better hope that they are successful.

And this...

Hitchens: It's exact equivalent of the evil nonsense taught by Hedges and friends of his, who say the suicide bombers in Palestine are driven to it by despair. Have you read the manifestos of these suicide bombers? Have you seen the videos they make? Have you seen the manifestos they put out? The propaganda that they generate? These are not people in despair. These are people in a state of religious exultation. Who are promised everything. Who are in a state of hope. Who are in a state of adoration for their evil mullahs. And for their filthy religion. It's this that makes them think they have the right to kill others while taking their own lives. If despair among Palestinians was enough to create psychopathic criminal behavior, there's been enough despair for a long time, and enough misery to go around. It is to excuse the vicious, filthy forces of Islamic jihad to offer any other explanation but that it is their own evil preaching, their own vile religion, their own racism, their own apocalyptic ideology that makes them think they have the right to kill everyone in this room, and go to paradise as a reward. I won't listen, nor should you, to anyone who euphemizes or excuses this evil wicked thing.

Why was Chris Hedges chosen to supposedly somehow defend faith in God when he is very outspoken in his criticism of all religion. Well, ALMOST all religion. All religion except for Islam, of course.

It is curious indeed that one of the sponsors of the event was The Zaytuna Institute, a local Islamic training facility. Zombie noted the actions of those in attendance from the institute.

There were entire rows of seats in the auditorium reserved for Zaytuna Institute staff and students, and many others sat elsewhere in the hall as well (see photo on the right, for example). Throughout the debate, whenever Hedges attacked Christianity, the United States or Israel, and when he praised the Palestinians or defended the Muslim point of view, the Zaytuna crowd cheered and clapped. Whenever Hitchens criticized suicide bombing or praised the goals of the Iraq War, they booed and grumbled.

So, the entire purpose of the debate came into focus: Hedges was there essentially to defend Islam, and the Zaytuna Institute had invited him for this very reason. He was obviously their favorite, and Hitchens was cast as the villain. (Even though, as it turned out, a great number of Hitchens fans showed up as well.)

But Hedges was in a delicate position. He couldn't overtly defend Islam in preference to all other religions, lest he lose his veneer of impartiality. So he hardly mentioned Islam at all. Hence, his strategy became this: to praise spirituality, but then criticize every organized religion except Islam. So he ended up championing Islam in a backhanded way. (Also, after repeatedly proffering excuses and explanations for suicide bombers, Hedges was so pestered by Hitchens that he was compelled to say at one point that he did condemn the practice; but as Hitchens later pointed out, Hedges' words rang hollow because most of his other statements justified suicide bombing.)

MPAC's Pack of Lies

I have observed with keen interest the dialogue and exchanges between Edina Lekovic of MPAC (the Muslim Public Affairs Council) and Steven Emerson of Counterterrorism Blog. I must admit that I agree with his assertions about Edina being evasive and untruthful about her involvement with al-Talib, an Islamic publication she was actively involved in while in college. After reviewing the evidence (the PDF's of the issues) it is clear that she openly lied about her involvement with al-Talib and wished to hide her open support of vile and despicable positions of violence. It saddens me because after trying to give so-called "moderate Muslim organizations" the benefit of doubt and deeply hoping for an emergence of a voice of moderation in Islam, I am convinced by Edina's own dishonesty as well as other actions by Islamic organizations that there is no such thing as a moderate, main-stream Muslim that is truly integrated into American society. Will MPAC speak out and denounce Hamas and Hizbollah? No. Will MPAC speak out and denounce Saudi Arabia's discrimination of Christians and Jews? No. Does MPAC as well as Edina Lekovic believe that Shaykh 'Umar 'Abd al-Rahman is truly innocent? Shaykh 'Umar 'Abd al-Rahman was the terrorist that orchestrated the first World Trade Canter bombing.

Shameful.

Groups like MPAC and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) are just another part of the "hudna", a false peace and an olive branch that hides a sword.

I think I'll take Muhammud at his word rather than what MPAC and Islam tries to shove down my throat. I am absolutely convinced now that Islam will not be satisfied until we all see a world-wide caliphate and those who do not convert to Islam pay the jizyah or are dead.

Well, well, well. Momma Moonbat, aka Cindy Sheehan, has decided she has had enough. Either she has finally realized that she was a mere pawn and face of the looney left or life's realities have finally caught up with her. She has apparently realized that the movement she had embraced "often puts personal egos above peace and human life.”

As a mother that has lost a child in the service of our country, she deserves respect and anything needed to help her heal. As a willing advocate of liberal defeatism, she deserves whatever has happened in her life. She made the choice to dishonor her family and country by her actions. We all are accountible for our actions.

On one hand, I hurt for Cindy because I, too, have lost a child though not to the honorable service that Cindy's son, Casey, did. No one understands what it is to lose a child except those that have lost one. On the other hand, Cindy sacrificed the rest of her family to the altar of liberal defeatism and became a political pawn in the elite left's drive to bring America to it's knees. They have used her and have now tossed her aside. Will someone on the left step up now and pay her delinquent medical bills as a way of saying thanks for being a pawn? Don't hold your breath.

I have sacrificed a 29 year marriage and have traveled for extended periods of time away from Casey’s brother and sisters and my health has suffered and my hospital bills from last summer (when I almost died) are in collection because I have used all my energy trying to stop this country from slaughtering innocent human beings. I have been called every despicable name that small minds can think of and have had my life threatened many times."

I am glad she has stepped out of the game. She has done a lot of damage. But I think she is broken and has not learned the lessons of her mistakes.

Immigration Bill Equals Amnesty

I am not a lawyer. And I am not an expert in constitutional law. But the immigration bill being considered by Congress and promised to be signed by the President is badly flawed and dangerous in my opinion. It seems to me that once the bill is signed into law, EVERY illegal immigrant in this country is instantly granted "status". Whereas if an illegal immigrant is caught in this country now without proper documentaion, that person can be quickly deported without much fanfare. Once the bill is passed then hearings would have to be held to determine if the deportation is proper so as not to deprive the illegal immigrant of their "rights" granted under this bill. Folks, with the hearings and appeals and delays this amounts to a nightmare of monumental proportions. We're talking MILLIONS of illegal immigrants that would be granted lawyers at taxpayers expense in order to determine if that particular illegal immigrant has rights under this law.

This bill needs to be defeated and current laws need to be enforced. Amnesty does not work. It invites more law breakers and teaches a disregard for the rule of law in our country.

The Myth and Scam of Global Warming

There was a farmer's convention in New Zealand this week and meteorologist Augie Auer had a few things to say about the myth and scam of global warming. Here's the article or go read it at the New Zealand Timaru Herald.

Climate change will be considered a joke in five years time, meteorologist Augie Auer told the annual meeting of Mid Canterbury Federated Farmers in Ashburton this week.

Man's contribution to the greenhouse gases was so small we couldn't change the climate if we tried, he maintained.
"We're all going to survive this. It's all going to be a joke in five years," he said.
A combination of misinterpreted and misguided science, media hype, and political spin had created the current hysteria and it was time to put a stop to it.
"It is time to attack the myth of global warming," he said.
Water vapour was responsible for 95 per cent of the greenhouse effect, an effect which was vital to keep the world warm, he explained.
"If we didn't have the greenhouse effect the planet would be at minus 18 deg C but because we do have the greenhouse effect it is plus 15 deg C, all the time."
The other greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen dioxide, and various others including CFCs, contributed only five per cent of the effect, carbon dioxide being by far the greatest contributor at 3.6 per cent.
However, carbon dioxide as a result of man's activities was only 3.2 per cent of that, hence only 0.12 per cent of the greenhouse gases in total. Human-related methane, nitrogen dioxide and CFCs etc made similarly minuscule contributions to the effect: 0.066, 0.047 and 0.046 per cent respectively.
"That ought to be the end of the argument, there and then," he said.
"We couldn't do it (change the climate) even if we wanted to because water vapour dominates."
Yet the Greens continued to use phrases such as "The planet is groaning under the weight of CO2" and Government policies were about to hit industries such as farming, he warned.
"The Greens are really going to go after you because you put out 49 per cent of the countries emissions. Does anybody ask 49 per cent of what? Does anybody know how small that number is?
"It's become a witch-hunt; a Salem witch-hunt," he said.

Christopher Hitchens has a great post called "Londonistan" that explains very well the ongoing transformation of parts of England into another part of an Islamic caliphate. Here's a scary statement at the end of Christopher's post.

Traditional Islamic law says that Muslims who live in non-Muslim societies must obey the law of the majority. But this does not restrain those who now believe that they can proselytize Islam by force, and need not obey kuffar law in the meantime. I find myself haunted by a challenge that was offered on the BBC by a Muslim activist named Anjem Choudary: a man who has praised the 9/11 murders as “magnificent” and proclaimed that “Britain belongs to Allah.” When asked if he might prefer to move to a country which practices Shari’a, he replied: “Who says you own Britain anyway?” A question that will have to be answered one way or another.

Indeed.

Why does this happen? Here's the short answer.... It's the nature of Islam and it always has been. Take them at their word. Read the Quoran. Take it at it's word. It's the nature of Islam.

Victor Davis Hanson has a great post exploring the reasons for home-grown jihad. Here's some great questions he asks that you won't see in the media.

Why would Albanian-speaking Muslim refugees from the Balkans try to murder American soldiers? After all, the United States — not bin Laden’s rag-tag jihadists — saved Bosnia and Kosovo? And we did that by bombing the capital of a Christian European nation.

But then, why did a mixed-up Albanian Muslim in Salt Lake City, one Sulejman Talovic, go on a shopping-mall shooting spree? Five innocents were killed in the attack before the murderer himself was shot and killed.

And why, after pouring billions of dollars into Afghanistan, did poor, mixed-up Omeed Aziz Popal, an Afghan Muslim, try to run over several innocents in San Francisco near a Jewish center in September 2006?

Or, for that matter, why did an angry Muslim Pakistani gun down Jews in Seattle?

Or, again, why earlier last year, did a 22-year-old Iranian-American Muslim drive his sport utility vehicle into a crowded pedestrian zone at the University of North Carolina?

Iran's Political Machinery

Here's a great analysis of the political situation in Iran by Pepe Escobar of the Asia Times from December 19. He notes that if Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi - the gray eminence and spiritual leader of President Mahmud Ahmadinejad - is among the 16 clerics representing Tehran in the Council of Experts, the political situation in Iran may be more volatile than we know.

Note this excerpt -

Yazdi and his followers have always stressed they want to implement "real Islam". They view the Rafsanjani camp as a bunch of filthy rich, morally and legally corrupt decadents, totally oblivious to the concerns of "ordinary people", whose self-styled key symbol happens to be Ahmadinejad.

Yazdi is also the spiritual mentor of the Hojjatieh, a sort of ultra-fundamentalist sect whose literal interpretation of Shi'ite tradition holds that chaos in mankind is a necessary precondition for the imminent arrival of the Mahdi - the 12th hidden (since AD 941) Shi'ite imam who will come to save the world from injustice and widespread corruption. Ahmadinejad may not be a Hojjatieh himself, but he understands where they are coming from.

Yazdi's "real Islam" has nothing to do with Western democracy. He wants a kelafat - a caliphate. Ayatollahs like Yazdi are simply not concerned with worldly matters, foreign policy, geopolitical games or Iran's nuclear program; the only thing that matters is work for the arrival of the Mahdi. Yazdi is on record as saying that he could convert all of America to Shi'ism. But some in Tehran accuse him of claiming a direct link to the Mahdi, which in the Shi'ite tradition would qualify him as a false prophet.

So What if Iran Has Nukes?

Recently, a brother in Christ came across my blog and read of my concerns about Iran and it's pursuit of nukes. He posted a comment that essentially said... "So what?" While both of us acknowledge that God is indeed in control of all things, I answered him to underscore the reasons for my concern. This week my daughter leaves for Germany to serve as a missionary for two years. Her mother and I swallow hard, pray for her safety, and encourage her to live her dreams. Today at church the congregation gave our daughter a going away party and a little more financial assistance. Today's events reminded me of my response to the comments by my brother in Christ. Here is his comment:

I am as concerned with WMD as you are . . . I don't loose sleep over them because God reigns . . . but I am concerned.

For the sake of dialogue let me ask two questions: 1) Suppose Iran refuses to stop the enrichment of uranium. What should we do about it? Should we invade Iran? What course of action should the US, and more importantly should CHRISTIANS pray for??

Second, this one is perhaps a little more touchy. Again I ask this for the sake of dialogue and not argument. Why should the US care if Iran has nukes? On what MORAL basis is it justified (morally) for the US to have thousands of nuclear warheads that could destroy the face of the earth but it is "immoral" for Iran to have any?

I don't want the Iranians to have them. But, as a Christian, I am wondering why the (apparent) double standard in this business.

And that brought me to me response and, I guess, part of the reason why I post my thoughts on this little, mostly unread, blog page.

My blog page is a place for me to vent my opinions about the world at large. It's interesting to occasionally post something (like today) because it helps me to clarify for myself my thinking on world events and my place in it as a child of God. I'm glad you do not lose any sleep over WMD's. I don't either. I sleep like a rock! LOL! In Christ I am secure and I fear no man or weapon. God indeed reigns. I will answer both questions.

1. Suppose Iran refuses to stop the enrichment of uranium. What should we do about it? Should we invade Iran? What course of action should the US, and more importantly should CHRISTIANS pray for??

LOL! That was more like four questions. The decision about Iran's uranium enrichment will hinge on one of two things: Whether or not Israel waits for the United States to act (they may act unilaterally) or we act to preserve the flow of oil and maintain our strategic position in the region. Israel will act primarily out of self-preservation if they believe Iran is close to a deliverable nuke. We will act to stabilize world markets, especially our own. I don't believe we will actually invade unless Iran either demonstrates a nuclear test or prepares to launch an imminent strike against Israel. Christians should be praying that God's will be done in all matters of men and that doors are opened for Christians to be able to go to Iran and preach the gospel.

I am convinced that Ahmadinejad means what he says. Given the chance, he would use the first nuke Iran can make to either detonate a demonstration test or launch it on Israel. If he launches a nuke, we will have a world war. He fervently believes the 12th imman is coming soon and that he can help world events unfold for Islam. Ahmadinejad has presented himself as the herald or "prophet" of the Hidden Imam - the ultimate, if absent, ruler and authority for so-called Twelver Shiism - and has gone so far as to claim that he had a vision of the Imam, at the UN of all places. I would prefer our country to have no nuclear weapons. But we do. We have not threatened to use them as Iran has. I am convinced that nukes have not been used since WWII because the United States does have a sense of morality. After all, most of God's people live here. That does not make our country a "holy nation" or anything like that. Only God's people, in Christ, are holy. Not because of anything we have done, but Jesus' blood makes us, His body, a royal priesthood and the bride of Christ. God raised our country up and He will take it back down in His good time.

Lastly, I am concerned about world events because my daughter is leaving for Germany this fall to begin a two to three period work in the mission field. She will be teaching English using the Bible and helping a missionary couple that has been in-country for over 30 years. As a dad, I want her to be safe and as a brother in Christ, I want her to have a chance to help save precious souls.

And all of that is why I care if Iran has nukes.

Dante's Nuclear Nightmares

Well, well, well. Are the nightmare scenarios of science fiction and doomsayers almost here? I don't think so but the pressure in world politics has certainly been ratcheted up a little. With North Korea's announcement of a successful underground nuclear test (and so far the evidence points to a successful test), you can be sure the world political scene has changed. Will North Korea's move embolden the REAL threat to the world, Iran? If the world politic wrings it's hands and takes no real action other than a few sanctions, you can know without a doubt the mullahs and the Tyrant of Tehran will take note of the cowardice and lack of cahunas of the West. Iran has the ideology of it's religion behind it that makes it a greater threat to the world than North Korea. North Korea may at some point use their new found muscle to start something with South Korea or even Japan in some pretext of a "preemptive blow at the war preparations of the United States and it's allies". As bad as that scenario is, it still pales to what will happen when Iran uses their nuclear muscles. When Iran uses their nukes against someone in the future, then Dante's nightmares will come true.

It is refreshing to hear someone in authority in Iraq speak out against the cut and run mentality of the Democrates, liberals and their cheering squads of MSM. Iraqi President Jalal Talabani was at a forum at the Woodrow Wilson Center, a Washington think thank, and offered his assessment of relations with neighboring countries and the American military presence. President Talabani believes the American presence has prevented invasion of Iraq by one of it's neighbors. He also insists that Iraq will not spiral down into a civil war.

"There would be no civil war. We have problems, we have some kind of extremists who are fighting against each other. They are not representing the whole society," he said.

He also defended the US military presence in Iraq.

"The immediate departure of coalition forces would only unleash the terrorists," Talabani said. "I cannot promise when or how the American presence will completely end in Iraq but I can promise that American soldiers do not fight in vain."

Icy Rings of Saturn

Besides blogging, one of the pursuits I enjoy is learning about the universe. The marvelous creations of our Lord and the wonderful discoveries a free and democratic society can achieve amazes me. I enjoy reading Space.com a lot. When they avoid editorializing on Creation and simply share the discoveries of science, I can sit sit and smile and simply go, "WOW!"

Check this out... This is a new wispy, icy ring discovered by the Cassini probe currently around Saturn. Enceladus, one of the moon's of Saturn, gushes water and ice from it's southern pole. As Enceladus orbits Saturn, it leaves this trail of icy material, creating and feeding a ring around Saturn. Go read about it here.

That's Enceladus in the middle of the ring. WOW!

Islam in Europe has posted a great piece last will and testament of a terrorist on trial in the Netherlands. Samir Azzouz, a Moroccan-Dutch, is now standing trial for the 3rd time on charges of terrorism. At one point he left a video-taped testament, intending it to be his last message to the world.

Note carefully what Samir says during the video:

My message to the Muslims who believe just as we do that there is no God but Allah, to them who condemn the devil (the despots) and believe in Allah, consists of barely two words, that I swear by Allah: "Attack or be attacked". What do you think of our oppressed brothers in Afghanistan, in Chechnya, in Iraq, in Palestine, in the Philippines and in Kashmir. Memories of 9/11

The memories from my childhood of JFK's assassination are still vivid in my mind. I still remember exactly where I was, what I thought, things I was looking at, what I heard and what I was doing precisely at the moment I heard that President Kennedy was dead. I remember the shock I felt, the gasped expression by my third grade teacher, the little girl next to me beginning to cry. I knew, even at eight years old, that my life was somehow different. I, like everyone else at that time, was glued to the TV. Watching everything that unfolded. I saw Oswald shot and can still remember his audible gasp and pained expression. I cried during the President's funeral procession, watching little John John's salute and the caisson mournfully proceeding to JFK's final resting place. Indelible memories and emotions that never fade.

Now multiply that by ten times with 9/11. Others better suited to preserving the memories of 9/11 have written about that day far better than I ever can. When I saw the first image of the gaping hole in the north tower of WTC, I knew that it was not an accident by a small commercial plane. A lone lunatic? A hijacking gone bad? Terrorist? But I could not grasp the depth and scope of what had happened until the second plane hit the south tower. Then the sudden cold realization of the true intent of those that just killed many of my innocent countrymen exploded in my psyche: we were at war. The memories of that day are burned in my mind and it changed the way I look at everything about my life, my faith, my family, my country, and my politics. In many ways, life is now clearer. More sharply focused. Life is short and can be snuffed out in an instant. It has always been that way but certain events and memories in your life seem to define you and are as much a part of you as anything you experience day to day.

So many innocent people died that day. We were attacked by people that will kill all that disagree with them. We were attacked in the name of Islam, no matter what the MSM, libs, Democrats or anyone else says. Never, ever forget.

Luke Nee

I have been honored and selected through an effort by a group of bloggers to memorialize the life of a precious person that departed this life on 911. I was given the name of Luke Nee to memorialize here. Each blogger is to only memorialize the life of the person they are given, not to editorialize about the events. I wish only to honor Luke.

I have been immediately struck at the emotions that have been expressed on behalf of Luke and his family. I have been awed at the love, tenderness and friendship that must have been a part of Luke's family and friends. He appears to be the kind of person that I would have immediately become great friends with, laughing and kidding and sharing great times.

If family and friends wish to contact me to share memories of Luke that I may share with the world in my blog, please leave a message here. If Irene or Patrick do not wish that this post about Luke remain here, I will of course follow their wishes and remove this memorial to Luke. In any case, I am proud and honored to know that Luke was much loved by all who knew him. He would have been the kind of guy I would have loved to hang out with because it seems it he loved many and was loved by many.

While we were asked not to cut and paste other tributes to those we were to honor, I can't help but to do so. The words spoken by family and friends of Luke have touched me deeply and I can never do justice to the depth of love and feelings expressed for the life Luke lived that touched so many lives.

In many ways, Luke was the typical American, living his life, loving his wife, Irene and being the best friend to his son, Patrick. Luke passed from this life on his 19th anniversary of his marriage to his wife Irene. Luke seems to have made life-long friends from the neighborhood he grew up in. I know their hearts were broken when Luke was taken. The empty void left in our hearts when a precious loved one is no longer there strikes deep. The memories become frozen moments in time that leave an ache that does not truly go away. Luke, though, was so loved by those that knew him that I can just see him smile and hear him say, "Hey, live and let live."

Never forget.

Luke Nee, 44, of Stony Point, New York, worked in municipal bonds operations for Cantor Fitzgerald, died at Cantor Fitzgerald in the World Trade Center on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. Luke was born in Bronx, New York to John and Mary Nee. Luke was a devoted friend to everyone. Luke is survived by his dear and loving wife of 19 years Irene (Lavelle); his son and best buddy Patrick; his parents John and Mary Nee; his brother and sister-in-law John and Jeanmarie of Astoria; sisters and brothers-in-law Patricia and John O'Keefe of East Brunswick, NJ and Mary Barbara and John Reilly of Eastchester, NY; his seven nieces and nephews; and many lifetime friends who survive Luke. He was remembered and honored by a host of family and friends on Saturday, September 22, 2001, at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church, Cinder Road, Garnerville, New York.

Luke was a kind and gentle soul who loved life. He was known for his cheerful disposition and for always having a smile for the world. If you needed a helping hand, or a favor, Luke would help you in any way and every way possible. He loved people, and always saw the good in them.

Luke loved his family, especially our son Patrick. They were truly best friends, and they had many fun times together. Luke loved a day at the beach, and went there as often as possible. He also loved going to Yankee games with his friends or with Patrick. We had great trips to the city at Christmas time, enjoying the beauty and spirit of the season.

Luke was also an avid reader, and would sometimes read two and three books a week. He enjoyed listening to music, especially Rolling Stones and Rod Stewart. He also had a style of dancing that was definitely unique and all his own. Luke also enjoyed Irish rock bands and went to concerts whenever possible.

Luke was fortunate to have had numerous lifelong friends. He looked forward to any gathering with his friends, whether it was a drink at Jim Brady's or a wedding. He truly enjoyed their company, and he loved all of them.

Luke was also a dedicated and reliable worker who gave every job his all. He took pride in a job well done and helped many people get jobs and trained many people. He always showed great patience and people were thankful for that.

Luke leaves behind a brokenhearted wife, son, mother and father, two sisters and a brother. He is also mourned by his brother and sister-in-laws, seven nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and many cousins. He is dearly missed by his friends.

Luke's favorite motto was "live and let live". I wish it were the motto of more people.
We will all be together someday and no one will ever take him away from us again.

Luke Nee came into most of our lives when he walked into the Bronx courtyard of 2855 Grand Concourse holding onto the chrome handle of his brother’s baby carriage. He left us on the wings of angels with the fine and brave, embracing each other toward Heaven.

Luke was holding on tight to the carriage that day when he saw the Carroll brothers sitting on the stoop. We would be friends in five decades. He lived in Apartment 4-G, beneath us, and the Hartnetts and Maiers, too. In four buildings, we also had the Beicherts, Davidoffs, Geohhegans, Slatterys, two sets of Walsh’s, the Kopilaks, the Moloneys, and the Mc Donalds. We tantalized Luke in jest often for a good laugh, yet he would always chuckle at himself and never lose his temper saying, “Why do you gotta be like that?” Luke was the consummate good friend, brother, husband, father, and son. His best friend, Robert, protected him at school and in the neighborhood, and was there in the end to help search for him and the brothers brave.

Luke was a kind and generous man, who loved music: the Faces, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, and U-2. When he heard that my son liked Aerosmith, Luke gave their first album to Craig from his private collection. Luke would give you the shirt off his back, or buy you one at Yankee Stadium. That’s the type of man he was. Cathy and I were fortunate to have had Luke, Irene, and Patrick at our home on September 2nd. Luke always reminded me how lucky I was that Cathy had married me, and what a beautiful family we have. We played football that day, fathers against sons. In the 70’s, we would threaten to chuck Luke, if he dropped a pass, down and in, between two parked cars on Minerva Place. In our backyard that day, Luke never dropped a pass, and he caught a few touchdowns, too. That’s how we will always remember Luke. There wasn’t a bad bone in his body, nor a gray hair on his head. Luke Nee was a touchdown, a homerun!

There are many quotations that one may reference to remember and to honor Luke Nee: authors, poets, musicians, and of course politicians. With Luke it always seemed to come back to the Kennedy’s. Jimmy and Robert would endlessly tease Luke about his Kennedy shrine, burning candles included, honoring Jack and Bobby. So, Patrick and Irene, we salute your husband and dad, today, and we look to the future. In the words of JFK, “A rising tide lifts all boats!” We your family and friends will forever be there for you, because to quote one of Luke’s favorite songs, “Love Lives Here!” May God Bless Us All!

I too had the honor of growing up with the Nee family in the Bronx and in Rockaway.......Attending the Mass in Garnerville on Saturday ..I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of people attending..... so many faces from the old neighborhood in the Bronx as well as so many from the very strong parish of St. Gregory's The service was so beautiful and so touching. The Nee siblings did Luke proud as they each rose to speak. The family portrait of Luke, Irene and Patrick made us smile, as he did. Luke was so very loved and will be sorely missed. God Bless you all.

Luke was always so calm and collected. We would talk as if we had known each other for years. I would always answer his calls with a Darth Vader voice and goof around and tell him to "give in to the dark side". He was so very easy to get along with and always willing to help out with anything I would ask. We would bump into each other on the train every once in a while and what a great way to make the commute go easier. I will miss Luke very much. I will never forget him. My heart and my most sincere prayers goes out to his family and friends. God Bless buddy, rest well.

Luke was such a wonderful man and teacher. The summer before my senior year in college he taught me everything there is to know about clearing tickets and surviving in the municipal bond brokerage business. We worked side by side for 10 hours a day everyday for 10 weeks. At 21, he taught me a whole lot but he also protected me and helped me to mature and I will never forget him. After graduating I was so lucky and honored to work for Municipal Partners for four years of the best years of my life and Luke was so much a part of it. He meant a lot to me and to every one he knew. God bless him and especially his family.

Bronx in His Blood

As a boy, Luke Nee played all the games that a Bronx sidewalk offered to kids on Minerva Place, just off the Grand Concourse: stickball, of course, and off-the-point and street hockey.

Right out of Cardinal Hayes High School, he answered a help-wanted advertisement for people with math skills and landed a job at Drexel Burnham Lambert. Before long, a half-dozen guys from the block followed. It was a small world, he would say, but he would not want to paint it.

At Drexel, he met Irene Lavelle, and they were married September 11, 1982. After he had shifted to Cantor Fitzgerald, he would chew through a couple of novels a week on the train ride from Stony Point, N.Y., said his brother, John Nee. His Bronx roots showed: he shared a ticket plan for Friday night Yankee games with boyhood friends from St. Philip Neri School.

Luke Nee, 44, made the simple pleasures glow. "He treasured Irene and loved bringing their son, Patrick, to ballgames," said his brother. On summer weekends, he, Irene and Patrick would jump in the car, pick up a few relatives and head for the beach. And on Sept. 11, he made a final call of farewell and love to his family.

"Luke was just a friendly, kind, peaceful, and unaffected guy," said Mr. Nee. "Meatball heroes, watch a movie with Patrick — that was a Saturday night."

The White House is finally getting a backbone in responding to the Democrats and it's supporters among the left and MSM. The cut and run tactics of liberals is nothing new and shows a lack of moral fortitude and courage. White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten fired back a response yesterday to a letter sent to the President on September 4 by Sen. Harry Reid outlining the libs tired litany of bailing out of Iraq. I, for one, am glad the White House is beginning to push back against those that would retreat in the face of difficult times. Iran, Hizbollywood, Osama and the advocates of a renewed Islamic caliphate rejoice when they see the left and MSM in this country playing the tune of dishonor and retreat.

We've all been hearing a lot about CAIR lately, the Council on American-Islamic Relations headquartered in Washington. Daniel Pipes wrote a great piece this past spring in the Middle East Quarterly about CAIR, breaking it down in great detail. Follow all the links that Daniel provides and you will be amazed at the depth to which CAIR has gone to mask itself as a "civil rights watch group". Since CAIR masks itself this way, the left and MSM has taken the bait hook, line and sinker. Shameful.

You won't see this in MSM reports . . . .

Ghassan Elashi, the founder of CAIR's Texas chapter, has a long history of funding terrorism. First, he was convicted in July 2004, with his four brothers, of having illegally shipped computers from their Dallas-area business, InfoCom Corporation, to two designated state-sponsors of terrorism, Libya and Syria.[29] Second, he and two brothers were convicted in April 2005 of knowingly doing business with Mousa Abu Marzook, a senior Hamas leader, whom the U.S. State Department had in 1995 declared a "specially designated terrorist." Elashi was convicted of all twenty-one counts with which he was charged, including conspiracy, money laundering, and dealing in the property of a designated terrorist.[30] Third, he was charged in July 2004 with providing more than $12.4 million to Hamas while he was running the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, America's largest Islamic charity.[31] When the U.S. government shuttered Holy Land Foundation in late 2001, CAIR characterized this move as "unjust" and "disturbing."[32]

CAIR has a number of links to the terror organization Hamas, starting with the founder of its Texas chapter, Ghassan Elashi, as noted above.
Secondly, Elashi and another CAIR founder, Omar Ahmad, attended a key meeting in Philadelphia in 1993. An FBI memo characterizes this meeting as a planning session for Hamas, Holy Land Foundation, and Islamic Association of Palestine to find ways to disrupt Israeli-Palestinian diplomacy and raise money for Hamas in the United States.[44] The Philadelphia meeting was deemed such strong proof of Islamic Association of Palestine's relation to Hamas that a federal judge in Chicago in December 2004 ruled the Islamic Association of Palestine partially liable for US$156 million in damages (along with the Holy Land Foundation and Mohammad Salah, a Hamas operative)[45] for having aided and abetted the Hamas murder of David Boim, an American citizen.[46]

Third, CAIR's founding personnel were closely linked to the Islamic Association of Palestine, which was founded by Ibrahim Abu Marzook, a senior Hamas operative and husband of Elashi's cousin; according to Epstein, the Islamic Association of Palestine functions as Hamas's public relations and recruitment arm in the United States.[47] The two individuals who established CAIR, Ahmad and Nihad Awad, had been, respectively, the president and public relations director of the Islamic Association of Palestine. Hooper, CAIR's director of communications, had been an employee of the Islamic Association of Palestine.[48] Rafeeq Jabar, president of the Islamic Association of Palestine, was a founding director of CAIR.

Fourth, the Holy Land Foundation, which the U.S. government has charged with funneling funds to Hamas, provided CAIR with some of its start-up funding in 1994. (See $5,000 money transfer, figure 1.) In the other direction, according to Joe Kaufman, CAIR sent potential donors to the Holy Land Foundation's website when they clicked on their post-September 11 weblink, "Donate to the NY/DC Disaster Relief Fund."[49]

Fifth, Awad publicly declared his enthusiasm for Hamas at Barry University in Florida in 1994: "I'm in support of Hamas movement more than the PLO." As an attorney pointed out in the course of deposing Awad for the Boim case, Awad both supported Hamas and acknowledged an awareness of its involvement in violence.[50]

Go read it all. CAIR is not a civil rights group at all. It's a fifth column for Islamic fascists.

You can almost hear the anguish of the left. They must be cringing over the announcement by Judicial Watch that U.S. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor, who last week handed down the ruling declaring the NSA's intelligence gathering program illegal, should have recused herself from the NSA case due to possible conflict of interest. Apparently, the judge serves as a trustee and secretary on the board for the Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan (CFSEM). This foundation made a “recent grant” of $45,000 over two years to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Michigan, a plaintiff in the wiretapping case. Judge Diggs Taylor sided with the ACLU of Michigan in her recent decision.

Wretched must have had a bad day or night when he posted a comment on his site, The Belmont Club. He had posted an excellant piece called "The Usual Subjects". Then he came back later and posted this comment, or as he calls it, a fable.

Let me tell a fable. It is precisely two days after nuclear weapons have destroyed New York, London and Sydney. And it is 24 hours after the President of the United States, after consulting with the Prime Ministers of Britain and Australia, has ordered a ten thousand warhead strike on the entire Muslim world, followed a second strike using tailored biological weapons.

At that very moment a famous Washington law firm calls the White House with an important message. An attorney for Osama Bin Laden has been instructed to deliver a video tape to the media upon the event of his death, which now appears certain. The entire situation room staff turns on the television and watches the familiar face, greyer and more lined, deliver a prepared speech in curiously triumphant tones.

"Brothers," he begins. "If you are listening to this then I am already dead and what was formerly known as the Muslim world has been entirely destroyed. I had forseen this response when I put into motion the plan to use our only three atomic weapons."

"Only three?" he continued. "Three was all we could afford. Yet with these few devices we had to ensure not only the destruction of your infidel civilization but the perpetual triumph of the uncorrupted and essential Islam". Looking directly at the camera Osama continued. "You have killed more than a billion people. Some of them were fighters. But most of them were children. Up until your magnificent thermonuclear warheads blossomed above their heads they were going to the market, laughing at their silly entertainments, playing games in fields. And you killed them. Killed them in a moment of fear; a moment which became inevitable because you were not men enough to fight Jihadis with your hands; and who therefore you destroyed with your unearthly weapons."

"Never again can such a people as you enter your churches, recite your prayers, read your literature, or pretend to nobility without knowing that it is all a lie. And the more you pray to your Jesus, to your Buddha, to your Yahweh the more hypocritical you will feel, until you give it up altogether. No, that door is closed to your forever by your own fear, cowardice and evil. The first of my goals, which is the destruction of your infidel civilization at its roots, I have already accomplished."

Religion of Peace?

The failed ideology of the left and MSM would have everyone believe that Islam has legitimate grievances against the West that stem from all the way back to the crusades. They would also have us believe that Islam is a religion of peace. Ever looked at a timeline of what led up to the Crusades? Could it be that the so-called "religion of peace" (RoP) was and is nothing about peace? James Arlandson at the American Thinker has a great post about the timeline of Islam from about 630 AD until the first crusade in 1095, 465 years later. Go read it. Christianity left it's calling by God to fight in wars of men but when faced with the threat of death or convert to Islam, political powers are going to rise up to meet the threat.

Rather humorous in some respects, don't you think? History repeats itself. Jesus said His followers would be led as sheep to be slaughtered. Islam is happy to make that happen.

The controversial Czech TV documentary “I, A Muslim,” in which a reporter used a hidden camera to record inside mosques, has been posted (with English subtitles) at Google Video by lgf reader “Abu Kafir". Go see it. Chilling. Skewed a little and somewhat melodramatic, but the fact remains that the Koran itself supports what the producers tried to show and what Muslim leaders say is distorted.

"Tribute 2,996 Project"

I have been surfing blogs about 9/11 recently as I am wont to do to remind myself of one the reasons I got into blogging. I came across a blog yesterday that was devoting a large amount of time to a worthwhile effort. This effort is called "Tribute 2,996 Project". This blogger has a goal of honoring and memorializing the life of each person that killed on 9/11. Not to recount the events of that fateful day but to remember each and every one of those loved ones that died. One victim, one blogger. A blog post needs to be written and posted on September 11, 2006, this being the fifth anniversary of the day that will live forever in the hearts and minds of this generation of Americans. A blogger that signs up will be assigned someone to blog about; their life, their love, their joy.

I signed up and was given the name of Luke Nee. With just a little research on Luke I have discovered just how much his life is missed among his loved ones, family and friends. And Luke is just one among 2,996. It's already kind of emotional for me because I or someone in my family or circle of friends could have been Luke. Reading about Luke with the intent to write about him puts a personal face on my own emotional experiences and memories of that awful day.

As of yesterday, the project had almost 2,000 bloggers signed up. There's not much time left for the rest of the 2,996 precious Americans to be honored and remembered through the project. If you are a blogger, take time to help with "Tribute 2,996 Project". Go sign up. You'll be glad you did.

The Hudna & The Integrity of Islam

Know what a hudna is? It is a term used to describe a principle whereby you enter into a treaty of peace with an enemy for the purpose of gaining time and strength. When you are then strong enough to vanquish your enemy, you find a pretext to set aside the treaty. It is, at best, a clever tactic to gain a reprieve while you prepare for inevitable action. It is, at worst, a doctrine of pure deception that is full of deception and guile.

An article by Daniel Pipes called "[Al-Hudaybiya and] Lessons from the Prophet Muhammad's Diplomacy", appeared in the Middle East Quarterly of September 1999. It described the story of how Mohammed used the principle of hudna to conquer Mecca. Read the whole thing here.

The sources tell of tensions between Muhammad and the grandees of the Quraysh tribe who controlled Mecca, his home city. The Quraysh leaders viewed the upstart prophet as a direct threat to their interests for his monotheistic message undermined Mecca's status as a pilgrimage destination for followers of the polytheistic Arabian religions. Tensions between Quraysh and the nascent Muslim community eventually forced Muhammad to flee the city in 622 c.e., when he found refuge in Medina, a town to the north of Mecca. By 628, Muhammad had built enough strength in Medina to challenge the Quraysh and possibly to vanquish them and take their city; instead, he reached an agreement with them. Named the Treaty of Hudaybiya after the town where it was signed, this pact disappointed many of the Muslims, who were spoiling for a fight. The treaty held that the two sides agreed to remove war from the people for ten years. During this time the people are to be security and no one is to lay hands on another. . . . Between us evil is to be abstained from, and there is to be no raiding or spoilation.

In the twenty-two months after signing the treaty, Muhammad significantly built up his power base. He made new conquests and formed alliances with powerful tribes, in particular with the Bani Khuza`a. As a result, by 630, he was considerably stronger vis-Ã -vis Quraysh than at the time of the signing. Quraysh did less well in terms of making new alliances, but it did ally with another strong tribe, the Bani Bakr.

Now, the Bani Khuza`a and the Bani Bakr lived near each other and had a long history of feuding-and feuding in Arabia, as in Appalachia, was passed on from generation to generation. In December 629, some of the Bani Bakr, possibly with Quraysh help, took vengeance on a party of the Bani Khuza`a, killing several of the latter. On hearing this news, Muhammad instantly opted for the most drastic response - to attack Mecca. It appears that he had decided the time had come to challenge the ultimate power base of Quraysh in their home city.

In response, Quraysh sent a delegation to Muhammad, petitioning him to maintain the treaty, and offering (as was the Arabian fashion) material compensation for the lives of the dead men. Muhammad, however, had no interest in a compromise and rejected all Quraysh entreaties. In an act of desperation, Abu Sufyan, leader of the Quraysh delegation, went to the mosque in Medina and proclaimed, "O people, I guarantee protection for all!" Muhammad had already made quiet preparations for an assault on Quraysh. This meant once the desultory negotiations ended, he was ready in short order to advance with a huge force on Mecca. So impressive was his army that the Meccans made no effort to resist it. Instead, they surrendered their city without a fight in January 630. And so ended the Hudaybiya incident.

The problem is that anyone that tries to enter into a treaty with an Islamic country must view the intentions of that country with suspiscion. In 1994, Arafat was overheard to say something about a treaty he had made with Israel. Criticized by Arabs and Muslims for having made concessions to Israel, he defended his actions by comparing them to those of the Prophet Mohammed under the same circumstances.

I see this agreement as being no more than the agreement signed between our Prophet Mohammead and the Quraysh in Mecca.

Arafat continued in his comparison, recalling how Muhammad was also criticized for his diplomacy by one of his future caliphs, `Umar ibn al-Khattab, Mohammed had been right to insist on the agreement, for it helped Mohammed defeat the Quraysh and conquer the city of Mecca.

In a similar spirit, we now accept the peace agreement, but [only in order] to continue on the road to Jerusalem.

How can anyone know and trust Islam's true intentions? In the years after he first alluded to Mohammed and the Quraysh, Arafat frequently mentioned Mohammed's hudna as a model for his own diplomacy. This raises many serious questions about the integrity, truthfulness and trustworthiness of Islam when it comes to treaties and agreements between Islamic countries and the West.

This brings us to UN Resolution 1701 and it's implementation. All parties concerned have already indicated that they will not disarm Hizbollywood. Hezbollah will remain in Lebanon and have now gained the reprieve of the hudna. They have also won the war of world opinion through the MSM and manipulations of the Left. Who wins here? Israel or Islam? A hudna allows Hizbollywood to fight another day when it feels expedient to set aside 1701. Iran and Syria can resupply Hizbollywood with even better weapons while Hizbollywood implements the lessons and tactics learned in battles against Israel's IDF.

Haaretz today has an article today describing the hudna in effect.

A compromise agreement now being hammered out between Hezbollah and the Lebanese government would allow the Shi'ite guerillas to keep hidden weapons in south Lebanon, the London-based Al-Hayat newspaper reported on Tuesday.

While Hezbollah would need to keep the weapons it possesses south of the Litani River hidden, an agreement for areas north of the river would be "left to a long term solution," the paper reported.

If the proposed compromise is accepted Tuesday by the Lebanese government, it would violate the terms of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 ending the war in Lebanon. The resolution rules that the Lebanese army and UNIFIL may be the only armed forces in the territory between the Litani River south to the Israeli border.

This compromise is also a violation of the "one weapon" principle that appears in Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora's Seven Points Plan.

No pretense here, no hint of Lebanon or Hizbollywood even trying to abide by UN 1701. At least Mohammed waited a while before setting aside his agreement.

Orla Guerin of the BBC gives an incredibly biased report from Bint Jbeil, the scene of an intense battle in the center of the town between Hizbollywood and the IDF. Orla makes things apear as if the entire town is totally destroyed. The evidence clearly shows otherwise. Another reporter on the very same street shows how the suburbs are largely untouched. Unbelievable bias from the Left. Go read it. Al-Reuters must be proud of the BBC.

After all, we know how to interpret some terms. Everyone understands that the "Democratic People's Republic of Korea" is neither democratic, nor republic nor responsive to it's people. It's simply the conventional and recognized name for the poverty-stricken, brutal and repressive personal fiefdom of Kim Jong Il. Peace is the same thing.
Once these facts are clear subsequent discussions can proceed without misunderstanding. Like experienced consumers we will have learned to read the labels on the packaging and achieved a certain level of "sophistication" the exact opposite of which is the "naïveté" that Americans, especially from the Midwest, are said to be incorrigibly afflicted and for which they are roundly reviled. Of course, sophistication is another one of those words which in this context doesn't mean what it's supposed to -- "knowledgeable" or even "complex" -- it simply means the ability to engage in double-talk and coded conversation with the intent to deceive and get paid well into the bargain. I leave you with one final word: humanitarian. Learn it well.

Europe is waking up to the dangers of radical Islamism; in the past, it bragged of its aid and arms sales to terrorist governments from the West Bank to Baghdad .

Maybe everything happening right now in the Middle East will fizzle soon and Israel will pull back after finishing a few military objectives. Maybe it won't. I doubt that Syria and Iran counted on this kind of reaction and move by Israel. From a strategic point of view, Israel is in the best position possible at this point of time to break the stalemate in the region. Syria's regime cannot afford to lose it's army in northern Lebanon without also losing power. Iran will know that at least one country has the will to stop it's nuclear ambitions before they come to fruition. The policy of appeasement by Europe and the UN has utterly failed and Israel may be, in fact, tired of the game.

Tehran, Iran, Jul. 17 – Iran’s hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Sunday that Israel should exchange key Hezbollah leaders it has in custody for its army personnel taken hostage by the Lebanese militia fiercely loyal to Tehran.

“This occupying regime (Israel) came into existence in the heart of the Islamic world and the Middle East 60 to 70 years ago with plots and ruses and has no duty other than terror, crimes, aggression, violence, and creating tension. Its mission is to sow discord among countries in the region”, Ahmadinejad said.

He accused the United States of lying that it sought a two state solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict.

He urged the West to remove the Jewish state from the region. “For certain, you cannot withstand the power of the nations of the region”, he said.

“If you do not contain this criminal regime and end your support for it and give a positive response to the people of the region you will face a dire fate”, he said.

His comments were reported by the state-run news agency ISNA.

The Tyrant of Tehran makes no pretense about his intentions for the region, particularly Israel. Make no mistake, war is coming.

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi is Dead

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the self-proclaimed al-Qaida leader in Iraq, is finally dead. He led a bloody campaign of suicide bombings and kidnappings and taunted the coalition as he tried to fuel a civil war between Shiites and Sunnis. While the insurgency may slow down some, I do not think it will disappear. However, this is a major victory and I applaud our military for it's vigilance and determination to make Iraq more peaceful. I also rejoice with Iraqis that wanted him dead so that they can begin to live with less fear. The Iraqi people perhaps are beginning to stand on their own. Initials reports indicate that Iraqi citizens supplied information that helped the operation to track this monster down and kill him.

You won't see liberal elites cheering al-Zarqawi's death very loudly. I know liberals in this country will be dismayed because even in the face of this major victory they will find a way to slam President Bush or whine about how his polls will swing upward. To the elitist left, deaths of innocent Iraqis are always preferred rather than supporting liberty in that nation. To support liberty in Iraq would mean supporting President Bush. They would choke on their own vomit first. Well, libs, start chokin'.

VIENNA (Reuters) - A senior Iranian nuclear official signaled Tehran's determination on Friday to press on with its nuclear work, despite facing what Washington called a "moment of truth" over a program that could produce atomic weapons.

The remarks by Mohammad Saeedi, deputy head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, suggested Tehran may have already decided to reject offers of incentives and negotiations from six of the world's top powers in return for ending atomic fuel activities.
"Iran is determined to go ahead with its nuclear enrichment work for peaceful purposes," Mohammad Saeedi, deputy head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, told students news agency ISNA. "The Iranian nation will not let us give it up."
